I have a little obsession with time travel stories and stories that play with the idea of knowing the future – because if you knew the future what on earth would you do with that knowledge? Is it possible to change the future? If you did change it, how would you prove it? What if you changed it and got it wrong. Seriously, I just don’t want to know what is going to happen. That is why I have never been to see a tarot reader, had my palm read or any of those other things I don’t even think I believe in.
Meanwhile, love a story with a bit of future foresight.
From Smokelong Quarterly this story by Lara Ehrlich called Foresight is a thoughtful exploration of multiple futures. It reminds me of one of my favourite movies Run Lola Run. Lola runs and runs trying to get the outcome she wants. The character in Lara’s story is less sure of what she wants.
