One of my 2024 goals was to write a blog for each Pocket Bookclub book at the time we read the book! Here I am in January 2025 writing about The Wren, the Wren by Anne Enright, which we read back in back in September.
It’s harder, the more time passes, particularly for a deep and complex book like The Wren, the Wren. I adored it, though it was not a great hit with the rest of the Pocket Bookclub falling into the bottom of our voting pile.
I enjoyed this book the everyday complexity of relationships and the language. Cheating a little I will let the book speak for itself.
“The way they ignored each other was more alert and intricate than another couple kissing.”
― Anne Enright, The Wren, the Wren
“The way to see the bird you want to see, is to stop looking for it, we all know this. You have to undo your gaze, let the bird happen without you.”
― Anne Enright, The Wren, the Wren
“It’s not that I think about him constantly, he is my way of thinking. His mind is my compass, his eyes my only mirror.”
― Anne Enright, The Wren, the Wren
2025 will be the year I keep up and blog on time!
