Just how small can a story be and still be called a story? Legend claims Ernest Hemingway wrote the six word story:
For Sale: Baby shoes, never worn.
Six heartbreaking words. A story in my opinion.
The land of online has spawned many online magazines featuring flash fiction. The sort of story you can read on your device, or computer. Short, short stories just the right length for a cup of tea.
The Boston Literary Magazine offers quarterly Quick Fiction – plus Drabble which is exactly 100 words and Dribble at exactly 50 words. They’ve been publishing since 2006 which is a pretty awesome commitment to flash fiction. My favourite in the Summer 2014 issue is Lizzi Wolf’s Sleepover. It’s a frantic messy beautiful vision.
