I seriously grew this beetroot. Pictured next to cherry tomatoes (which I also grew) so you can get the perspective of its sheer ordinary wonderful size.
I have grown beetroot a number of times (unlike this year’s first foray into ginger) but they were always puny in comparison to this normal sized beetroot.
I only did one thing differently. I grew it potting mix and compost instead of in the ground. Our soil is a heavy red volcanic soil. I have never been able to grow carrots or garlic for example. So, in future, beetroot be above ground in one of my recycled bee hive boxes.
Otherwise, my tips are regular water and fortnightly liquid fertilise with worm wee or fishy product.
Tonight this beetroot will become something delicious with feta and chicken. Not sure what yet.
