The Pocket Bookclub celebrates the year’s end with the usual wine, cheese, food, and swimming. Each member votes for their favourite and less favourite read of the year.
January: Some people liked this, it has green dots, though I was somewhat ambivalent.
The Silence of Water, Sharron Booth
Cunttail: The Bloody Silence
March: remembering when our kids were teenagers and reading outside our canon. Two green dots.
Tomorrow When the War Began by John Marsden
Cunttail: Descent into Hell
April: The pink dots indicate this was our least favourite read of the year but I don’t think we disliked it, we were just exhausted by its length and detailed research. An amazing story, I learnt so much but it is the only one I didn’t blog about!
Paradise Mislaid by Anne Whitehead.
May: There is something special about this book/elongated interview. It will stay with me—a mixed reaction from members.
Faith, Hope and Carnage, Nick Cave and Sean O’Hagan
Cunttail: Sorrow & Solace
June: This book made me thirsty. I talk about it all the time. Especially to barmen when they are mixing cocktails. Just so they know they are not the boss of the cocktails.
Girly Drinks, Mallory O’Meara
July: I adore this book. It’s a winner with 10 green dots. I have read it five times. Is that weird?
Bass Rock by Evie Wyld
August: this book is violent and confronting and worth every gasp of horror. You will need to talk about Mungo. Runner up with 8 green dots.
Young Mungo by Douglas Stuart
November: Mediative is perhaps the word I chose for this one. Well-liked with 5 green dots
Cold Enough for Snow by Jessica Au
